As some of you may know from my tweets and Facebook posts, 2012 has proved to be a very exciting year for Davidsbeenhere, and it’s only getting better! Right now I am traveling through Guatemala exploring Mayan ruins and sampling all the delicious delicacies in the vibrant outdoor markets with INGUAT the Guatemalan Tourism Board. I will soon be off to the El Salvadorian border to discover El Salvador and immerse myself deeper into the amazing world of Mayan culture.

Learning the basics of a language can be very helpful in certain situations. There are certain places and situations where you will be forced to use the local language, since not everyone in the world speaks English. Being able to read signs, ask your way or order food at the restaurant will make travelling so much easier. You will be able to bargain with merchants and avoid being scammed because you look like a tourist. It can also help you deal with emergencies.
Knowing at least a few important words can therefore be very useful.

The Lilongwe Wildlife Trust (LWT) is Malawi’s only wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center. The LWT provides refuge to orphaned and injured animals, as well as teaches the local community about conservation. Through their efforts, the LWT manages to save many, but not all, of Malawi’s victims of poaching, deforestation and illegal animal trading. In addition to operating a comprehensive primate release program, the LWT conducts wildlife tours during which visitors can get acquainted with some of the permanent residents including Bella the lion and Kambuku the leopard. Locals and tourists alike are welcome to experience the center for themselves, to learn about the plight of the animals, learn ways to help and come away with a better understanding of Malawi’s precious wildlife.
